Count sheep and start thinking in Russian

Tuesday 14, January 2014, 10:54 am Red

When did you start learning Russian? Maybe some time ago. Maybe you don’t see any improvement. Maybe you are stressed and can’t sleep at night because of that… Why don’t you just start counting sheep in Russian? You will sleep better, and you will be learning Russian!

Easy tasks to start thinking in Russian

We are all nice, hard-working people and deep in our hearts there is a little voice telling us “tomorrow you will sit down and learn some Russian”. We believe that voice, but it seems that tomorrow never comes. And that makes us feel bad. In order to keep ourselves and our little voices happy, we are going to find easy tasks to make our minds think in Russian. It is as simple as…

counting sheep

…counting sheep in Russian

Next time you are in bed (tonight most probably) close your eyes and start counting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,… Don’t count in your own language (that’s not fun). Start doing it in Russian!

But not only sheep is what you can count. Next time you have to do any task where you have to count (apples at the supermarket, pieces of documentation, money…) do it in Russian. At first it might seem difficult, and you will be slow, but don’t give up: after a short while you will be using numbers in Russian as well as in your own language. This video teaches you how to count from 0 to 100:

Beyond sheep: more tasks to keep on learning Russian

This article is not about sheep. This is about learning Russian. So, just think of small tasks which could set your mind in motion… in Russian motion. Make your mind use Russian on a daily basis. For example, when you are walking on the street, you see cars passing by. What about telling the colour in Russian of each one you see? Don’t try to say what you see in Russian (a car, a bus, a van…)only say its colour. Little by little the colours in Russian will be part of your vocabulary. Here you have a video with the colours in Russian:

In a nutshell: Learn Russian while doing something different

You can think of many tasks that you can put into practice every day to learn some Russian. You will not need to find time to sit down and learn, because you will be learning on the go. Start with easy words (numbers, colours, days of the week,…) and after that, you can move on to something more complicated (animals, objects in the kitchen, objects in the office). Learning words will increase your vocabulary, which in turn will help you improve your Russian.

Put into practice what you have just read. You will feel better, and you will sleep better.

This is very simple: start counting sheep (in Russian) tonight.
